Quantifying the relationship between SARS-CoV-2 viral load and infectiousness

The relationship between SARS-CoV-2 viral load and infectiousness is poorly known. Using data from a cohort of cases high-risk contacts, we reconstructed at the time contact inferred probability infection. effect was larger in household contacts than non-household with transmission as large 48% when greater 10 copies per mL. peaked symptom onset, mean 29%, individual variations. model also projects effects variants on disease transmission. Based current knowledge that increased by two- to eightfold concern assuming no changes pattern across variants, predicts levels could lead relative increase 24% 58% 15% 39% contacts.
